Shrutika Vasudeva is a Board-certified Obstetrician-Gynecologist with Reiter, Hill & Johnson of Advantia and is currently accepting new patients at locations in Falls Church, VA, and Chevy Chase, MD, as well as Washington, D.C. To her new position, Dr. Vasudeva brings a dedication to providing compassionate and individualized care for all women’s health concerns.
What led you to obstetrics and gynecology?
Women are the heart and anchor of a family, and caring for them is a tremendous privilege. The most rewarding aspect for me is the ability to create a lifelong connection with my patients from teenage years through adulthood. I help them plan a family, guide them through pregnancy and childbirth, and keep them in good health for many years after.
There’s strong scientific evidence that suggests that pregnancy is an important opportunity to predict women’s future health risks. We know that women with common pregnancy-related complications such as preeclampsia, preterm birth, low birth weight, placental abruption, and diabetes are significantly increased risk of cardiovascular disease later in life. Now, for these women, regular care with a primary care provider, lifestyle modification, regular screenings, and early intervention are critically important. Women need to know about their future health risk and use every opportunity to prevent chronic illness and disability.
What are your specialties or passions within this field?
Though I do enjoy all parts of obstetrics and gynecology, I particularly have a passion for high-risk obstetrics, pediatric gynecology, reproductive endocrinology, and minimally invasive gynecology.
Who is the biggest influence in your life?
My children—they’re my whole world. I have three beautiful kids. Truly though, on a deeper level, they are the very reason I breathe, the reason I fight harder, love deeper, and dream bigger. They’re not just part of my life, they are my life. They are my greatest teachers, my strongest motivation, and the purest reminder of what unconditional love really means. Also, to not forget, my husband absolutely holds me accountable when I mess up.
What is the most daring thing you have done?
I will say before kids, I wasn’t afraid of anything. I have done skydiving, bungee jumping, white water kayaking, and even climbed some of the most treacherous mountains in Patagonia.
